(Sorry for the delay on the blog posts, we haven't had easily accessible wi-fi!)
Hi Mom, these are your sons Tim and Noah
Talking,
This morning we woke up after a long night
of fighting off slugs, wolves, and asthma (mostly just Noah.) We woke up early, had breakfast, devotions,
did some prep for crafts we would use later in the day, and headed out for a
relatively long car ride to Paul Alto, which is above 13,500 feet above sea
level.
Kep and Debbie have been connected to a
church there for a number of years, and we went to help out evangelizing to
children very similar to our time spent at the Pacalo School near Camp Yungas.
Nearly all the materials we used were the exact same, but the one difference
was that there were about half as many kids, which provided for a more intimate
time trying to share the Gospel with these Bolivian children. It continually
amazes us how we can be so encouraged, loved, and accepted by people who don’t
even speak the same language as us.
Unlike at the school we visited previously,
we were able to evangelize to older students as well as younger students, which
gave us the ability to go deeper into the Gospel. Joe and Noah had the opportunity
to share their testimonies, and amidst the language barrier, Danny and the
other members of our team were able to administer the Gospel through their
actions. A surprising blessing of this day was the opportunity to meet and grow
closer with the young Bolivian believers who were helping alongside us. Their
humility, love for God, and servant-like attitudes towards the children has not
only been an encouragement but has pushed us to humble ourselves and follow
their example.
After a long day of battling altitude sickness
and other health issues, we embarked back to the church. The quickest way to
get there was by a (ski lift?) which brought us within a few blocks of the
church. The view we got from the gondola??? was breath taking, the city of La
Paz looked arguably more beautiful at night than in the day with the sweeping
city lights seen across the horizon. They say that La Paz is the only city
where you look down to see the stars. Before we reached the church a necessary stop
was needed for some Bolivian fast food fried chicken which was the perfect, greasy,
ending to our long day.
Once we all got back to the church we
played some games together, and bonded through competitive screams, arguing,
and laughter whilst we (Tim and Noah) procrastinated writing this gorgeous piece
of blog art.
Before this post comes to a close we’d
like to ask for prayers for us, the team, Kep and Debbie, and all Bolivians
we’ve encountered so far. Pray that the fruit of our labor and the work that’s
being done in Bolivia will not go unseen and God will continue his work here in
the hearts of these Bolivians. Finally, pray that God will continue to give us
humility and peace throughout the rest of this trip.
Love you, and we’ll be back sooner than
you can imagine…unless we get eaten by a puma…or fall off Death Road…or get rabies
from a pack of stray dogs…or we drink the water and die of typhoid… Or Danny
kills us because we’re still up at 12:30 writing this blog… :)
